Tavi 8 -1 Bodmin

Tavistock Mens 1st X1 continued their great start to life in Piran 1 with another emphatic win over Bodmin Mens 1st X1 today with the score being 8 1 to the home side.
The game was evenly balanced for the first ten minutes but it was Tavistock who opened the scoring when the prolific Mark Forshaw went on a mazy run evading many tackles before lifting it pass the advancing Bodmin keeper. This goal gave the home side greater confidence and soon they were playing with swagger and high tempo hockey. The home side doubled the lead when Tom Honey went on a run from centre back and fired into the goal to give the home side a healthy two goal cushion. Jimmy Berry then won a short corner after good play and Forshaw duly obliged to score with a well struck shot that beat the visiting keeper all ends up. Bodmin replied almost immediately when some indecisive play from Tavistock allowed Bodmin to pull a goal back against the run of play. Forshaw a giant on the pitch led by example and restored Tavistock’s three goal lead and at the same time completed his hat-trick when he converted a well taken short corner after initial good play from Josh Walker and Barney Fisher. Hat trick hero Forshaw turned to provider when his fizzing cross was deflected in by Nick Andrews to complete the first half scoring for Tavistock with the teams going in at half time with Tavistock leading 5-1.
The second half saw the same tempo from Tavistock with continued excellent play down both flanks and many chances being created up front whilst limiting Bodmin to a few half chances. Josh Walker scored Tavi’s sixth of the day when he coolly slotted in after rounding two defenders. Tavistock’s seventh goal came courtesy of Jimmy Berry when he fired across the keeper from another well worked short corner. Bodmin tired rapidly in the last ten minutes and it was Walker who took advantage by turning his marker inside out some 50m from goal and sprinted into the D before firing an excellent shot into the bottom corner to double his goal tally. A goal sure to grace any ground. The final score was 8 1 to Tavistock. Donut of the day went to James for his green card, even though he had an outstanding game and man of the match was close with Berry, Forshaw and Walker getting the majority of the votes but it was Walker who came out on top to cap a fine individual performance.
Next Saturday Tavistock are home again, 3pm pushback versus Penzance where they will be looking to maintain their 100% record.
