A message from the team capatians.
Tom Honey Men's 1st Team Captain
Tavistock Mens 1st XI set out with specific objectives at the beginning of last season to win the league and these were met in formidable fashion. Many goals were scored with little being conceded and a fast skilful brand of hockey was being displayed on a week to week basis. This season Tavistock will be stepping into the Southern 1 GoCrea8 Hockey League which will be by no means a walk in the park. With more additions made to the squad over the summer it is set to be an exciting season where we aim to improve on our standard of Hockey whilst maintaining the attacking flair that was on show from last season. Once again competition for places will be high however I only see this as a positive aspect as the club grows from strength to strength.
Dave Anning Men's 2nd Team Captain
"The Men's 2nd team aims to successfully blend youth and experience. Up and coming young players are encouraged to get involved in senior hockey, playing matches alongside more experienced members. The aim is to integrate young players into the adult game and build confidence and experience in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. The emphasis is on enjoying the game and learning to work as a team rather than a group of individual players.
This year there will be a drive to ensure players who make training sessions are responsible for set piece plays and we will practice these on training nights.
Hugh Venton will captain on the pitch and I will organise team selection and play when available (this will usually be when there are LOTS of young players selected!).
The standard of training sessions will be high this year so make the effort to attend snd get the most out of the season!
