Having won the league and going up to South Division (where Tavistock had never played before) the team were extremely relaxed and optimistic about how the games would go and decided that the aim was to try to sit middle of the table by the end of the season. Having acquired a couple of new players, the first few matches put Tavistock in a strong position in the league and before the team knew it we were sitting in the top 4 in the league. Some matches were tougher than others, not because of the opposition but due to low numbers. In fact on a couple of occasions we played away matches with only 9 or 10 players and still came home with resounding wins. This was due to the commitment and determination of the team. The results from the last few matches started to indicate that Tavistock could be possibly in with a shout at winning the league. We all thought this was going to be hard work but actually it turned out to be easier than expected. Strong performances from all the players resulted in Tavistock winning the league over Plymouth and Marjons 2 who had been top of the league all season. Players kept commited and determined all the season and my personal thanks go to all of my squad on what was a remarkable experience to be involved. There are not many teams which have won the league the previous year and gone up and then continued to win the next league and go up again. In the 10 years that I have played for Tavistock I have only seen this done once. The team will now play in Premier 2 next season and it is hoped that will attract many new players to the team as we will need some new bodies out there. I would like to thank all the team who played well and made the effort to regularly attend training. It has been these factors that helped put the team in the position they are in. I would also like to thank Phil Edwards, Phil Honey, John Barratt and Joe Raeburn for umpiring this season.
